Logistics is the improvement of the control of the movement of material flows from the primary source of raw materials to the final consumer of finished products and the associated information and financial flows based on a systematic approach and economic compromises in order to achieve a synergistic effect.
One of the areas of logistics is transport logistics, which represents transport companies that are participants in the goods distribution process, aimed at obtaining a single economic result in the logistics chain.
Transport in the logistics process of goods distribution forms a single technological chain, starting from suppliers of raw materials, covering various intermediaries and ending with consumers of finished products, that is, it is an integral part of a single transport and production process. The main task of transport in logistics is to reduce cost and time costs.
The separation of transport logistics into an independent region is due to the following factors:
1. the ability of transport to create a stable and optimal functioning system "supply - production - distribution - consumption";
2. the need to solve transport problems within the framework of the logistics system (when choosing distribution channels for goods and fragile products that require special attention and packaging);
3. a high share of transport costs (up to 50%) in the total logistics costs for the promotion of goods from the primary source (supplier) to the final consumer (customer) of the product;
4. a high share of the transport component in the price of goods in foreign trade;
5. the presence of a large number of freight forwarding enterprises, which are of great importance in organizing optimal cargo delivery, both in domestic transport and in international traffic.
Transport logistics also has its own principles that underlie the organization of transport:
1. Cost optimization - achieved by maximizing the use of carrying capacity and organizing deliveries without warehouses, shipping and warehousing, and standardizing the cost.
2. Savings from the scale and range of goods - it is with this principle of organization that the costs per 1 ton of cargo and 1 km of track are minimal.
3. The concentration of cargo flows on individual channels, the distribution of goods and the rejection of uneconomical channels.
4. Delivery of goods "on time" - based on the development and implementation of a single technological transport and production process. The optimality of transport logistics for suppliers and their customers lies in the concept of “equilibrium points”, the finding of which is associated with the optimization of transport costs, which play an important role in achieving a synergistic effect and increase the share of transport companies in the transport services market in comparison with their competitors.
